Drivers should check their tires regularly before getting behind the wheel. It's also recommended to register tires upon purchase by requesting a Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) card from your dealer. This ensures you will receive a notification in case a recall is issued.

Tire Rotation

Tire Rotation is another action that will save you money on fuel and provide you with a safer, better ride. The main advantage of rotating your tires is that it creates uniform wear on all of them. There are different types of tire rotations based on your vehicle, the location of uneven wear, and the type of tire. Consult your service advisor to determine how your tires should be rotated.

• Winter: Traction is key. Consider installing a set of winter tires on your vehicle. Winter tries are typically designed with a specialized rubber compound that maintains its flexibility in cold weather. This helps the tire to adapt to the road surface and dig into snow and ice. Also, when the temperature drops, the air pressure in your tires decreases, so be sure to check them often and inflate as needed.
• Summer: Before taking any summer road trips, be sure your tire pressure is up to par (even the spare). Appropriate tire pressure conserves both fuel and money!
• Spring/Fall: Rainy conditions present the hazard of hydroplaning. To reduce this risk, have worn tires replaced as soon as possible.

It is also important to consider how outside factors such as weather and road conditions can affect a vehicle's tires. Every season presents new challenges for tires to overcome, but one consistent key factor to their performance is determined by their air pressure.

Be sure to check the air pressure monthly. You can find the recommended air pressure for your vehicle in your owner's manual. Proper tire inflation is essential for vehicle stability, fuel efficiency, optimum steering, grip, wear, and load-carrying capabilities.
